SAN POLO BRUN DI MONT RSV 15

San Polo was purchased by Marilisa Allegrini & Winebow’s founder, Leonardo Locasio, in 2005. In 2007, Marilisa purchased Leonardo’s shares and put them in the name of her two daughters, Carlotta & Caterina. The San Polo estate comprises 54 acres, 40 acres of vineyards and 20 acres dedicated to the production of Brunello di Montalcino and is located on the coveted eastern, high elevation (1,375-1,500 ft), cooler side of the appellation, which was once the original and only zone allocated for the production of Brunello di Montalcino DOCG. All vines are grown organically and dry-farmed in schist-rich soil (known locally as galestro). San Polo’s vineyards obtained organic certification in 2017 and the estate was the first winery in Tuscany to be awarded the CasaClima Wine Certification, a rigorous quality seal representing a comprehensive dedication to sustainability in the vineyard, winery, and local community.

In the best vintages, with the best grapes Riccardo Fratton, Winemaker. “As occurs every year, the first day of the grape harvest for the production of Brunello is when we select the grapes that, hypothetically, will be earmarked for our Riserva. This is a special and precious wine that requires great care in the vineyard and in the winery. During the harvest, we choose only the best bunches by carrying out a first picking between the rows of vines, then we vinify separately and, only during the ageing period will we be able to decide whether the wine produced has the characteristics to become a great Riserva. In fact, in San Polo we produce Brunello di Montalcino Riserva only and exclusively in truly excellent vintages… vintages that seem to promise superb results, with excellent phenolic ripeness.”
