Castello di Monsanto owns some of the best vineyard sites within the appellation and is home to the largest reserves of Chianti Classico in Tuscany. In 1962, Fabrizio Bianchi founded the winery after it was presented to him as a wedding gift from his parents. That same year, pioneering Monsanto was the first winery to make a Chianti Classico Cru from the single ‘Il Poggio’ vineyard and worked to eliminate white grapes from Chianti Classico Riserva blend. Further, in 1981 Monsanto harvested the first 100% Cabernet Sauvignon, Nemo, from the Il Mulino vineyard.
Tasting Notes:
It displays a deep ruby-red color, exuding elegance and allure. On the nose, it reveals enticing aromas of ripe dark berries, cherries, and a touch of tobacco, complemented by subtle hints of vanilla and spice. The palate offers a complex and well-structured character, with flavors of blackberry, plum, and dark chocolate, intertwined with notes of toasted oak. The well-integrated tannins provide a velvety and smooth texture, while the vibrant acidity adds freshness and balance. The finish is long and lingering, leaving a lasting impression of fruit, spice, and a touch of earthiness. Il Poggio is a wine of distinction and grandeur, perfect for celebrating special moments or pairing with rich and flavorful dishes.
