Woodford Reserve Rye Whiskey

Crafting Woodford Reserve Rye is an exacting process calling upon 5 different elements in the creation of its exceptional character and flavor profile.

Water, taken from Woodfords own deep limestone wells, is mashed with the grains; a blend of corn, barley and rye. The mash is fermented in the smallest cypress wood fermenters in the industry using a proprietary yeast which turns the sugars into alcohol. Pumped to the still room the 3 copper pot stills which hail from Scotland triple distill the alcohol until it is pure and clear.

Next it is aged in barrels made from new American White Oak, crafted, toasted and charred by in-house Coopers. The casks are stored for in temperature controlled rick houses allowing for maximum possible flavor, the barrel slowly enriching its contents with subtle nuances of flavor and a rich deep amber color. Each barrel is regularly sampled by the Master Distiller; a cask only pronounced as being a Woodford Reserve Straight Rye Whiskey when he says so.

Its scent tells of the high rye content; feisty black pepper, cedar and cassia bark, sweet marzipan, fruity pears and apples laced with nutty almonds dance arousingly, readying the senses.

The taste is magnificent, bold and bolshy. Clove, pepper and tobacco from the feisty rye, intermingle with sweet, sticky dark molasses and honey, malt and orchard ripe apple. The finish is sweet and with pronounced spice and fruit notes delighting long after the glass has been emptied.

TASTING NOTES

NOSE
Spicy with distinct notes of rye, black pepper, cedar and cassia bark sweetened with a dusting of marzipan. Hints of pear, apple and almond dance in its depths.

TASTE
Clove, rye, mint, molasses, sorghum and honey mingle together with hints of apple and malt.

FINISH
Long and sweetly spiced
