Templeton Rye Stout Cask Finish pays homage to the resilient spirit of the residents of Templeton, Iowa, during Prohibition, who crafted whiskey clandestinely in their basements. Today, our rye is crafted with a 95% rye / 5% malted barley mash bill, echoing the flavors of the whiskey made by Templeton bootleggers a century ago. It’s aged in new American oak barrels in the same town, continuing the legacy with the same strong spirit.
As an outlet for innovation, our limited release cask finish series offers an annual unique twist on rye whiskey. The Stout Cask Finish, release number 4 in the series, is a limited edition not to be missed! Initially aged to perfection for six years in American oak flame-charred barrels, it’s then expertly finished in bourbon barrel-aged chocolate coffee stout casks for three months, imparting rich and complex flavors that elevate the rye to new heights.
